Overview: the entryway is the mouth of qi for the whole home – what happens here sets the tone for everything inside. The goal: invite qi in, slow it down, and let it pool.
Front Door Direction
You cannot change the direction your door faces, but you can work with it: a door facing your personal auspicious direction is reinforced with a solid clean threshold; a challenging direction is softened with the right element cure (a small water feature for a fire-facing door, a plant for an earth-facing door).
Drawing Qi In
- Light the entry well – brightness invites yang qi
- Keep the inside face of the door clean and the hinges silent
- A mat in a color that supports the door direction
- Something beautiful at first sight: art, a healthy plant – never a mirror facing the door (it bounces incoming qi straight back out)
Shoe Storage
Shoes carry out-door qi. Store them enclosed in a cabinet, not open piles. Cabinet height below eye level; nothing stored above the door frame.
